Course Description
Every rescue incident presents competing priorities: patient care needs, rescue complexity, limited resources, and time pressure. PMTR is designed to help teams identify, balance, and manage those competing needs by placing patient care as the primary driver of rescue decision making.
Rescue is not simply about medicine and movement. It is a continuous process that begins with first contact and ends with definitive transfer of care. PMTR emphasizes continuity of care across that entire arc, particularly for injured patients requiring technical rescue.
This course consolidates medical decision making, rescue system selection, operational planning, and team coordination into a single patient centered framework that can be applied across disciplines, environments, and resource levels.
Intended Audience
This course is designed for emergency response practitioners wanting to integrate patient care during rescue. It is best suited for personnel who are already functioning within fire, EMS, rescue, or industrial response teams. This is not a course which teaches individual skills such as rope rescue or first aid, but how to implement those skills in new environments.
We recognize that certifications and experience vary widely at the intersection of rescue and medicine. To fully benefit from this course, participants should be comfortable operating in dynamic environments and bring the following:
• A working knowledge of emergency scene operations and hazard assessment
• Entry level experience of prehospital patient assessment & treatment OR entry level experience of technical rescue
• The ability to function within an interdisciplinary team and adapt to evolving roles
• A willingness to be challenged, adapt, and operate outside of traditional roles
• A commitment to improving patient outcomes through the integration of medical and rescue practices
